Technological Innovation and its impact on Higher Education: Some perspectives
Dr. Jagdish N. Sheth is Charles H. Kellstadt Professor of Business in the Goizueta Business School at Emory University. He is globally known for his scholarly contributions in consumer behavior, relationship marketing, competitive strategy, and geopolitical analysis. Professor Sheth has over 50 years of combined experience in teaching and research at the University of Southern California, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Columbia University, MIT, and Emory University. He has been advisor to the Government of Singapore in repositioning the nation for the future. He has also been the policy advisor to the U.S. Government about the future of the telecommunications industry.
Dr. Sheth is a recipient of the 2020 Padma Bhushan Award for literature and education. He has been on the board of several companies including Norstan, Pacwest-Telecom, Cryocell International, Shasun Drugs and Chemicals, and WIPRO Limited.
Technology always had an impact on higher education even in the days of the Industrial age. For example, printing technology allowed education to be free of location and time with publications of books and journals. A single book could be printed and copies sent all over the world.
The digital technology will transform higher education in several,ways. It will result in the democratization of education and become more accessible and affordable. Second, library will,go to the laptop. Third, collaborative research across nations and disciplines will be more feasible resulting in more breakthroughs in science, arts and social sciences.
