About the speaker

Prof. Hrishikesh VinodProfessor Hrishikesh D. Vinod is a Ph. D. in economics from Harvard University. 

He has published over 160 research papers in top refereed journals in Economics and Statistics.  He has co-edited vol. 9, vol. 41, and vol. 42 of the Handbook of Statistics with the great statistician Dr. C. R. Rao. In 2008 he published a book entitled Hands-on Intermediate Econometrics Using R:  

A similar Hands-on matrix algebra book was published in 2011. He worked for some years in the prestigious pure research area at Bell Laboratories and was an expert witness on major anti-trust cases.  

Since 1982 he has been a professor of Economics at the 160+-year old Fordham University in New York.  Currently, he is the Director of the Institute of Ethics and Economic Policy at Fordham University. 

His publications are in diverse areas of statistics, econometrics, and economics.  He has been cited by other researchers some 3042 times, according to Research Gate.  He is a co-author of an R package called 'meboot' for maximum entropy bootstrap and 'generalCorr' for causality testing. 

His recent awards include:

  • Outstanding Social Service Award, Maharashtra Foundation. 
  • Journal of Econometrics Fellow.

Abstract

Covid-19 first appeared in China around December 2019.

In dealing with the pandemic, there are many important decisions to be made by elected officials. The main goal of our research is to predict future Covid-19 outcomes using past data to make out-of-sample forecasts.
