IKS

This talk is the result of a pursuit of the epistemology and ontology of Academic Knowledge that we have been engaged with over the last four decades. Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) was proposed in India in the National Education Policy 2020. 

Why, then, is Ayurveda, the sciences of health, illness, and healing that originated in the Indian Subcontinent, dismissed as pseudoscience? 

In this talk, I will explain my idea of what should be "Indian Knowledge Systems" (IKS).

We shall first briefly discuss the Indian Knowledge System and its parts such as Vedas, Philosophy, Puranas and Epics,  Linguistics, Mathematics, Astronomy, Engineering and Technology,  Health and Psychology, Governance and Public Administration. We shall then concentrate on Development of Mathematics in India in Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry and Calculus  from the times of Bodhayana (800 BC) to Madhavacharya (14th Century AD).

Professor Mahadevan’s research interests include researching the possibility of using ancient Indian wisdom to address contemporary concerns, spirituality in the work place, and management paradigms from Bhagavad Gita. In the traditional areas of management, the research interests include design of service systems in customer co-creation of value and order allocation issues in electronic markets. This talk will provide an overview of Indian Knowledge systems. The  talk will discuss the epistemology and ontology of IKS and bring out the contemporary applications of IKS.
